Except that is a old pic they are of a slightly different make up now, and they are based in Italy. But awesome album. Full praise to Peter the master producer for turning this rough unit into a tight cohesive sounding band. And Spiritree, very nice guy's, I love beautful machine but the album is full of classics from start to finish.

What songs are good?

Paul said...

The whole album is good, but my best songs are:

Step Outside
What Some Ppl Get High On
Neo Revolution (duh!)
Dust
Fall Down

Nice, I'll be listening to this for a while!

Personally, I wish the drums (mainly the snare) was more forward in the mix on pretty much all tracks.

I wonder how the guitar amps were recorded too, they have a different type of sound. I guess Peter would know. It sounds like a single performance made stereo by mic positions and such.

Anyway, enough waxing techy. Nice Job and pretty inspiring content bros

Srry for the double post,
The Kick drum and Toms, ESP the toms sound sweet. I haven't heard toms like that for a while if they are real. the low tom mainly. deeep!

Paul said...

Yeah, the drum sound & timing are totally kick-arse! I love it.

Well my favorites are Beautiful Machine, All this, and Save me. But the whole album is good from start to finish. I would disagree with you about the drums steve, I thought the mix was about right. But love your stuff too, good variety and along with peter one of the best producers around. I loved how you did the prophet bus album very nice sound.

Paul said...

To each to his own, & I agree with both of you.

Jesse said...

This post is for all my badness to come out.

Peter you did a great job!

One question... When I went to this link that some guy posted on your site, Neo, to this album, I got all the songs but in the cover it only had 12 songs, not 13, even though the whole zip file came with 13 songs... I didn't know what to do with "Immaterial." I see that you place it as the 12th song... could you explain?
tx!
The album took some getting used to, but my favs are Step Outside, More to Life, Neo-Revolution, Beautiful Machine, Dust, and All This (acoustic version)... gbt!

Paul said...

Sure I can explain.

On teh album cover it was an apparent mistake that Immateriel was not listed, so that's why it isn't there. I didn't here anything specific from the band as to where exactly the song is supposed to be, which is why I put it at/near the end. I put it as song 12 because I believe that All This acoustic is supposed to be the last song on the album.

Thanks a lot... makes sense.. Thank you!! It's wonderful to have a site with fresh music!

Paul said...

You're most welcome.

Phil said...

Yeah Pretty good stuff! didn't like them so much at first when I got the album awhile ago, but they've grown on me a bit. I agree with steve about the snare, and I don't like the tuning that much on it...sounds a bit weak and tinny....I like wood snares:P, but Dan's voice has improved a lot! Did anyone think the mastering or recording was a bit muffled? maybe it's just me....well GBT anyways and I hope to hear more from these guys soon!

Anonymous said...

hey nice stuff. I like it! I know some of these guys from when they lived in Japan.

Paul said...

For eraphones/headphomes, its fine, but for speakers it is a little muffled, but not enough to worry about.

Kirsten Ryan said...

Thanks for updating Neo. I've been looking for some new music.

Jesse said...

It`s not just NEW music. It`s family music.

Jesse said...

These guys should REALLY get their own site.

Jesse said...

These guys rock!

Paul said...

They have thier own site!

Phil said...

Thank God for family music! GB SpiriTTree

I do agree that it sounds muffled... When i first heard it, I thought it was some bad recording but ya, if it's an official album, then that couldn't be the case... I just got used to it and now I do like it.

Jesse said...

These guys look like real nice people.

Paul said...

Yep they are nice & the album is nice.

Yes as someone else said, many thanks to Peter(french) and David(Hungarian) for their work on the album. The Drums are real, I recorded them in a little bit of a hurry, and in looking back, I may have done things a little differently, spent a lil more time, but when working in a certain time frame its a push I layed the drum tracks on the first two days of recording. I didn't use my kit, as flying to budapest didn't really allow.
Admitedly the snare sound is a little fat, vintage rcok, I maybe would have like it tuned a little higher, maybe a little sharper, but it got the Job done and I think it sounds fine. Its a 6 ply, 14" birch snare, I used Sabian HH, and paiste Alpha cymbals.
you can check out the recording pics on our myspace.
GOD Bless!

The band lineup for the album is as follows:
Sam(drums)
Dan(guitars)
James(vocals)
Danny(bass)

Paul said...

I think the guitarist sings too.

Jesse said...

The funny thing is, we cant even sell this stuff.

And if we did, its not advertised enough. The net is a small small place, compared to the rest of the world.

WHY ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH MONEY JESSE?
LEAVE IT ALONE for Gods sake

Paul said...

Yeah really.
I hate money talk!

Dude, i'm a huge ST fan. The song "Dust" is a work of art. All around, these guys have a real spirit of the revolution in their music and it comes out in every song.

Having said that, i think that the drums are my least favorite part. They get pretty lost. I don't think it was the mics or the tracking either, i think the dynamics were not there, and the grooves were all pretty samey. Better luck next time.

The guitars are sweet, i love the tone. I believe that they used Peter's Marshall TSL 2000 for tracking, am i right? I'm not the biggest fan of Marshall, but Peter knows how to make them sound pretty good.

Jesse said...

Remember you just have to re-upload it. Meaning you just need to download it twice if you didn't get the whole song from the glitch.

All the best everyone.

-Jes

Jesse said...

Yeah I agree with you Mark. Dust is a real good song. :)

Oh happy day!

Anonymous said...

Dust Is My fav too, After getting used to the whole thing. I really Feel the spirit in that one.

Anonymous said...

You FEEL the spirt but do you really Feel the music..

Honestly. This is a poorly mixed album. But Peter did his best.

GBH!

Jesse said...

Good songs don`t need someone vouching for it.

Good songs just stay that way.

Good.

Paul said...

Yes, they are good. Very good!

Jesse said...

Totally!

Whew!!! ST rocks! Heavy duty! I'm gonna have to get me an oxygen tank!!! Whew!!! I just cannot believe the power, the conviction, the power again. Spirit Tree is deep because, like any tree, they got them roots dug in deep!!! God bless 'em. Great work!

That FGA again!!! (now, somebody take my blood pressure, please!)

Paul said...

Ah ha! I was wondering when you would listen to these awesome guys. Thank God for such on fire dedicated music!

Anonymous said...

Sweet album! Loved it!

Anonymous said...

Oh Anon, if you were in Peter's place during the time he mixed this I doubt you would even get a smidgen close to how good it came out, quit picking on him and just enjoy unless you're gonna go and remix it all. Please guys!!!

Paul said...

Amen Sil.

David Fighter said...

If anyone wants the lyrics to the ST songs, they are available on the MO Site under the "Contributions" section. Just the lyrics, though. No chords.

Cheers! Keep rocking on!

Paul said...

Yep, there they are. Easy to get.

Drakeot said...

I believe both Dan and James play the guitar and sing. GB Peter, he did a tremendous tob for these guys. He's definitely one of the best producers in the Family, and I love his Marshall (alright we aren't supposed to love things, just people, so I really like his Marshall, ha).
Jesse you are too money-minded you must be the finance man in your home or something. You remind me of my brother, ha! GBY!

Paul said...

I wish I knew which songs were sung by Dan & which were sung by James. Got any idea??

Drakeot said...

Yep! I think so. If the singers are the same as the ones on the EuRoCk DVD. The main singer in 'Dust' is actually Dan, I believe.

Paul said...

Yep -same ones, same band. Tell me which songs you know were sung by which guy.

Anonymous said...

On the album Dan sings the acoustic version of All This, the verses for Dust and the bridge in Beautiful Machine, the rest are sung by James. Dan did all the guitar for the album as well.

Paul said...

Thanks for that info!!!
